Chris Scott spoke to the media today ahead of Friday night’s clash at the MCG.
Here is what Scott had to say.
On Dangerfield’s Return
He has had a really long build up to playing.
In our mind he recovered from the injury pretty quickly, and the last half of his recovery was just built around his conditioning program, making sure that when he did come back that he was ready to perform really well.
The question mark is when a player has been out for a while, what their match conditioning is like because that is obviously hard to get when you are not playing.
In terms of his physical condition, he is in really good shape and has done a power of work.
As has been our policy a little bit, referring to Cam Guthrie and it will be the same for Tanner Bruhn, it is likely that we will prioritise a little bit of extra training to make sure those guys come in ready to perform.
On the Bye Weekend
The bye has been a good opportunity for us on a number of fronts.
We had some players, as I'm sure every club does, that had little niggling injuries that the extra week clearly helps with.
Some other guys have taken the opportunity to get a little bit more work in, so it has been a bit individualised.
We have always prioritised making sure that they players get a good break away from the place and come back refreshed.
We feel like we achieved that bit, but also got some really good intense training in to give us a chance to play really well in the back half of the year.
On Tyson Stengle
We gave him the opportunity, but that was the opportunity to walk in the door and Tyson has done the work.
I would like to think that we have helped him, but we are not the sort of club that says hey mate, you owe us because we gave you an opportunity.
We want the best for Tyson, not just while he is playing footy but post footy as well.
Part of that is making sure that he sets himself up financially, and in areas outside of footy.
I can't see a time where we would leverage what we have done for a player, to convince them to commit to us, we are not that club and not those people.
On the Carlton Clash
The personnel part is always the easiest thing to talk about when it comes to Carlton.
They have got two of the best young key forwards in the competition, they might have the best young key defender in the comp, some great midfielders as well.
You look through their team and they have got talent everywhere, but if it wasn't clear in the last decade, it certainly has become clearer recently that talent alone doesn't get it done.
We have some admiration for their system and the way they are playing together.
When you come up against a team like that, sometimes a challenge is not being too tunnel visioned on what their individuals can do and missing how their overall system works.
Some of their role players are very good players in their own right, we think they are a very solid team.
