Scott on Carlton

My takeaway would be that the things they are doing really well, are the things that they have been trying to prioritise for a long time.

I am not sure that there is a huge shift in that respect, so I am not telling anyone anything that they can't workout really quickly by watching them for a quarter or two.

They have elite players in the middle of the ground, and their contest has always been a strength. Even if you look over the course of the season, they have been in front in a lot of the games that they have played.

Their percentage of time in front is actually quite high, it doesn't reflect their ladder position.

There are a lot of things that were going right anyway, they just had some periods in games where a lot went wrong at the same time.

Scott on Geelong's list depth

I hesitate to say that we have got some guys that really can't be doing much more. We always want them to be pushing for a little bit more, but they are playing their part.

I would just reiterate the way that we think about the season and the relentless nature of it, is that we are trying to build as big a squad as possible of viable AFL players. We think that we have a very big group like that at the moment.

Some of the performances, young and old, have been outstanding. They are playing their part, but it makes our decision-making a little more challenging.

We just keep reverting back to, let's think long-term. I hesitate to say it, because it is easier for us and harder on them when they are doing everything they can and still not getting their opportunity, that can be frustrating.

Scott on maintaining form throughout the season

The relentless nature of the season and the competitiveness, means that you do have to be going close to red-lining every single week.

I am just trying to get my numbers right, I reckon we played Port Adelaide four or games ago. We have played North Melbourne, Collingwood, Brisbane and Sydney, but before then we thought we played really poorly and I think everyone agreed.

I just think that there will be ups and downs within a season, but it would be disingenuous for us to say that we have got this down pat, where we can pull the puppet strings.

I am as nervous about the way we are going to play Friday night as I was last week, so being on edge like that I think is probably a good thing. Our job is to help the players through the season.

Scott on Tanner Bruhn

Yep, Tanner will play.

Again, I find myself saying this a lot, that it was a management call that bordered on the overprotective.

In a way, especially when you win the game you think, all's well that ends well. We will and we have faced situations where we look back and say maybe that was a bit cautious, and it cost us in some respects.

I don't think we are in that position yet with Tanner. We have got four games before the bye, so it would be nice to get him back in.
