As the seconds ticked down in yesterday’s Easter Monday win over the Hawks, it was Jeremy Cameron who fittingly laid the final blow, running into an open goal to kick his seventh of the afternoon.

As the ball sailed through and the Cats fans hit the high notes, and Cameron rolled out what’s fast become a trademark celebration – one finger in the air and rounding the boundary at top speed. Except this one had a different ending.

Perhaps caught up in the moment, or more likely, he just couldn’t move get out of the way of Jezza gone full Celebration Mode, umpire Matthew Tomkins and the rampaging Cat came together at speed, before both crumpled to the ground.

For a moment, it looked more serious that it was before the two men, both clearly a little shaken but both seeing the funny side, hugged it out.

Cameron, talking to K rock Football post game said he wasn’t sure what to think when he and Tomkins got tangled up.

“Honestly, I thought I'd ran into the fence,” he laughed.

“I knew the fence was nowhere near me, but what else can you run into, unless it was another teammate. But when I actually looked at the ground and saw the umpire I was a little bit shocked to be honest. I didn't know what to think, I thought he might have been getting in on the celebration and just overstepped the mark a bit.

“Hopefully he's ok, he had a bit of a blood nose there, so I'm fine, I'm hoping he is too.”

It was the second time this season Cameron has kicked six or more goals, the big Cat’s seven on Monday putting him two goals ahead of Carlton’s Charlie Curnow in the race for the Coleman Medal. While the sheer energy in his final celebration was impressive in itself for someone who’d just played four quarters of football, it seems that despite being a new Dad, he’s was especially well-rested after two week old daughter Macey apparently looked after him on Sunday night.

“I quite enjoy getting up and giving Indi a chop out when I can, but little Macy's been incredible," he said.

“I think she slept for seven hours straight last night, I think she knew Dad had footy tomorrow, so she looked after me.”
