Geelong has three first-time All-Australian representatives, with Amy McDonald, Georgie Prespakis and Chloe Scheer all named in the final 2022 Season 7 AFLW All-Australian Team.

The trio were announced as part of the 21-player team at the W Awards on Tuesday night.

After winning the Cats’ past two best and fairest awards, McDonald was recognised as one of the best midfielders in the competition with her first All-Australian selection, going one better than in Season 6 when she made the initial squad.

The 24-year-old led the league for contested disposals in Season 7 (15.1 per game) and has the highest average disposals per game at 24.8.

McDonald’s ability to weave through traffic and extricate herself from tackles are trademarks of her game, while she also applied pressure when the opposition was in attack, laying 7.4 tackles per game.

Prespakis’ selection in just her second season of AFLW is testament to the 19-year-old’s ability and work ethic in games.

The young midfielder is ruthless around a contest and loves to launch the ball into attack for the Cats.

Prespakis averaged 21.8 disposals, 7.2 tackles 5.7 clearances a game in Season 7.

Scheer was a dynamic force up forward for Geelong and a key component of the Cats’ stark improvement in attack in the second half of the season.

Able to play tall or small, the 23-year-old delighted fans with her ability to fly or dive for a contested mark, snap an opportunistic goal or sink one from a set shot.

Scheer finished the season with 13 goals for the season, including a personal and team high four goals against the Swans in Round 10.

Scheer also cameoed in Geelong’s midfield throughout the season, with her ability to break through packs, win the ball and clear it for the Cats a feature of her game.

Season 7 marks the first time Geelong has had multiple representatives in the All-Australian team, with McDonald, Prespakis and Scheer joining Meghan McDonald (2019 and 2021) and former Cat Olivia Purcell (2020) as Geelong All-Australian players.
