Geelong Cats players shared important health messages with primary school students across the Colac region this week as GMHBA Healthy Heroes hit the road.
The Cats Community program features a suite of tailored programs for students from Foundation through to Grade 6, as well as complementary programs for teachers and parents, and shares important holistic health messages around healthy eating, active lifestyles and mental health and wellbeing.
With the help of a host of Cats AFLW players and SEDA College students, the program was delivered to nine schools across five days, reaching approximately 2000 students from Foundation through to Grade 6.
“In what has already been a big year for Cats Community programs, we were thrilled to be able to share our GMHBA Healthy Heroes program with students in Colac and surrounds,” Geelong Cats acting Head of Community Jessica Dangerfield said.
“The program is a key component of our Cats Learn pillar of programs, and it’s wonderful to be able to further educate primary school students about how to make healthy choices when it comes to things like nutrition, hydration, physical activity, screentime and wellbeing.
“Our men’s and women’s players are wonderful ambassadors for GMHBA Healthy Heroes, and our AFLW players enjoyed the opportunity to facilitate the program in Colac this week.”
GMHBA has been proud supporters of the program for six years.
“We are excited about the GMHBA Healthy Heroes program expanding into Colac, because it has the real potential to shape the long-term health of the community,” GMBHA Head of Corporate Communications Amanda Bavin said.
“By getting to kids early with the program, we can set them up with the right lifetime habits.”
