Geelong Premiership forward Tom Hawkins will undergo surgery this week on a foot injury.
Hawkins carried the injury towards the end of the season while still playing an influential role in the Club’s Finals campaign and Grand Final victory.
After consulting with several specialists, it was decided that surgery would be the best course of action for his long-term wellbeing on and off the field.
The Club expects Hawkins to be available early in season 2023, with a full pre-season training timeline to be confirmed post surgery and after the initial stages of recovery.
Geelong General Manager of Football Simon Lloyd said undergoing surgery was best outcome for the All Australian captain.
“Our Medical team and Tom have gone through an extensive process which has included consultation with specialists to determine the best approach and have come to the decision for Tom to undergo surgery this week.
“Tom is incredibly meticulous in his training and preparation, and we know he’ll have the same application to his recovery.
“We will take the time and diligence required to have him return to playing in early 2023.”
Hawkins is due to return from his off-season break with his teammates in December.
