Geelong premiership player Patrick Dangerfield has been voted by the coaches as the best player of the finals taking out the 2022 Gary Ayres Award.

Dangerfield polled 12 votes for his Grand Final performance, where the votes earnt 1.5 time loading, adding to the perfect 10 he received for his preliminary final to see him win on 22 votes.

Collingwood’s Jack Crisp finished on 16 votes, one vote ahead of teammate Jordan Goey, Brisbane’s Lachie Neale and Norm Smith Medallist Isaac Smith on 15 votes.

Gary Ayres congratulated Dangerfield on his finals performances.

“Patrick’s steely determination to win contests and his fierce desire to compete was on show during the preliminary final and on the biggest stage Grand Final Day. Patrick is a deserving winner said Ayres.

The AFL Coaches Association Gary Ayres Award is presented in recognition of the player who has been adjudged as the best player throughout the AFL Finals Series, as voted by the coaches on a weekly basis.

Votes are issued after every game of the AFL Finals Series by the competing coaches with each coach providing their 5-4-3-2-1 for the match.
