Geelong is set to face the Gold Coast Suns in both the AFL and AFLW on August 13 after the league confirmed the fixture for AFL Women’s practice matches.

With 18 teams represented across both competitions for the first time, each club will play the same opposition across both their men’s and women’s programs on the same weekend.

The AFLW Pre-Season Games will align with Round 22 of the AFL Toyota Premiership Season, held from Friday, 12 August to Sunday, 14 August.

Geelong’s AFLW team will take on Gold Coast at Austworld Centre Oval on Saturday, 13 August from 1pm AEST, with the AFL team set to face the Suns at 4.35pm at Metricon Stadium.

Cats fans will get their first look at Geelong’s new crop of AFLW stars in the practice match, after eight new players joined the club over the off-season, while the returning crop of 22 players from Season 6 will be keen to build on the foundations of an encouraging season.

“We’re excited to see all the hard work the group has been putting in over the pre-season come together,” Geelong head of AFLW and Pathways Brett Johnson said.

“We were pleased with the progress we made in Season 6, and the practice match against the Suns will be a good chance to tune up and get ready to have another red hot crack in Season 7.”

Geelong’s Season 7 campaign begins at GMHBA Stadium on Sunday, 28 August against Richmond.
