Heads into his ninth season as skipper with two years left on his contract and a club-record 185 games as captain next to his name – 41 short of Stephen Kernahan’s all-time AFL/VFL record. Selwood shifted to a more outside role on the wing throughout 2019. However, during the finals, the courageous skipper returned largely to the inside midfield position where he made his name as one of the competition’s elite on-ballers. The change in position meant his average disposals dropped from 27 in 2018 to 21.3 and he finished ninth in the best and fairest – his lowest placing since his debut season in 2007.
