Ahead of our Round 17 fixture against Carlton, geelongcats.com.au takes a look at which players are in contention for selection this week.

Zach Guthrie

Was outstanding in Geelong’s VFL win against Essendon with his ability to intercept the ball across half back, launch scoring opportunities and link up with his teammates in transition.

Guthrie was particularly influential early in the game with 15 of this 20 disposals coming in the opening half.

Charlie Constable

Had another mammoth outing in Geelong’s engine room with his second consecutive 40+ disposal performance.

When the game was there to be won in the opening half, he was instrumental winning the contested ball in the clinches and feeding it to his teammates outside to generate scoring opportunities.

Finished with 41 disposals (23 contested), 19 ground ball gets and 13 clearances.

Oscar Brownless

Named in the Bankers’ best for the fifth time in seven games this season.

Won plenty of the footy and used it well in wet and windy conditions at GMHBA Stadium, with his 26 disposals coming at 77% efficiency.

Kicked a brilliant goal in heavy rain in the final term to cap off a strong individual performance.

Francis Evans

Was lively in attack for the Cats for the second consecutive week, backing up his 4.2 performance against the Lions with three majors against the Bombers.

Is building a nice patch of form after injury saw him miss a month of football after playing two AFL games earlier in the season.

Darcy Fort

In tough conditions for the big men, Fort was formidable in the middle for the Cats.

He finished with 22 hit-outs, 21 disposals and five clearances to be named in Geelong’s best for the seventh time this season.

Sam De Koning

Was brilliant down back for the Cats with his ability to read the play ahead and either intercept mark or beat his opponent to the fall of the ball with a spoil.

Is a very smooth mover for a player standing 202cm tall and is just getting better with each game he plays.

Managed Pair

Shaun Higgins and Esava Ratugolea are also likely to be in the selection mix after both players were managed against the Bombers.
