Cats Media identified four points of interest to follow through the Cats’ round seven clash with the Gold Coast. Here’s how they played out:

The bounce back

Can you remember a time when the Cats were 5-0? How quickly it can change.

In what will forever be known as the “Round of the Underdog”, the Cats travelled to Metricon Stadium and were picked off for the second successive week, this time by the Gold Coast Suns.

Collingwood mapped out the blueprint for success against Geelong a fortnight ago, with a dose of run and carry and quick, slick ball movement also adopted by Rodney Eade’s side to run out 25-point winners.

The Suns led at every change and controlled the game more or less from the outset. It was advantage Gold Coast in disposals (+67), clearances (+4), inside 50’s (+23) and contested possessions (+12), while the Cats just weren’t able to hit anywhere near the peak.

One loss has now turned into two and with teams already jostling for positions inside and outside the top eight, Geelong needs to stop the bleeding this week against Essendon.

The difference a week makes

Selwood was named one of the Cats’ best on the night but was limited in the second half with an ankle injury. As we’ve come to expect, he battled on and finished the game with 24 disposals, five tackles and a goal.

Hello to the Little Master

It was nice to see Gaz but it’s better when he doesn’t steer the opposition to a win.

Often going head to head with Patrick Dangerfield, Ablett collected 32 disposals and kicked a highlight reel goal from the boundary in the first quarter to remind us all just how good he is.
