Tom Stewart has put up his hand to play all of Geelong’s upcoming games after making a successful return in the Cats Round 8 win against the Dockers.

“I will be raring to go and will put my hand up to play every game,” Stewart said speaking to K Rock Football post-game.

“I think everyone on the list will be doing their best to play every single game.

“It is a superstar competition, so we have got to deliver our best every week to compete at the end of the year.”

Stewart was impressive in his first game back from a broken collarbone, recording 13 disposals (92.3% efficiency) in Geelong’s 32-point victory.

“It was a good test for it. I had a couple of contests early, got smashed a couple of times and we were into it.”

Geelong’s dominance around the stoppages set up the victory and Stewart paid tribute to the team’s onballers post-game.

“Our boys around the ball were fantastic.

“We have been working a lot on our contest method and how we want to approach around there.”

“I thought Lachie Fogarty was fantastic, Brandan Parfitt, Cam Guthrie and (Patrick) Dangerfield - they have showed up a lot of weeks and kept us in a lot of games, so kudos to those boys around the ball, they set the scene for us.”

After having to bide his team playing in Geelong’s VFL program prior to being given an AFL chance, Stewart has a soft spot for mature aged players and was delighted to see Brad Close come in and have an impact.

“I have always got a soft spot for those mature aged recruits. He had to bide his time in the non-selected group, and he has been a super pro.”

“He could have been picked as early as round one in my eyes.

“He has been unbelievable for the program; he works his butt off and I am absolutely stoked for him."

Next up the Cats will take on West Coast at Optus Stadium on Saturday and Stewart is looking forward to facing former teammate Tim Kelly.

“They were super impressive and have some really dangerous forwards, so we will put some time in throughout the week and it will be good to re-unite with our old mate TK and have a good contest.”
