In his first game back after a hamstring injury, Allen Christensen slotted back into the Cats side in style.

Racking up 22 touches, nine tackles, six clearances and two goals, Christensen’s handy work around the ground was a welcome return.

“It took me a while to get into it, I was gasping for probably the first 15 minutes but the diesel engine started taking over halfway through the second and third quarters.

“I got a bit tired towards the end but that was to be expected and it was good to get a run in the legs.”

A sunny afternoon in Geelong on Saturday, the warmer conditions may have played a part in the Cats’ lagging legs.

Christensen also put the Cats’ final quarter fade out down to a heavy track under foot after a lot of rain prior to the game.

“We were pretty disappointing towards the end, it was a bit lack lustre and unlike us so we are a bit disappointed in the performance.”

With the Power piling on six final quarter goals to the Cats’ one, Christensen told Cats TV there is a lot to work on.

Steven Motlop’s speed and run through the middle teamed with his flair around goal was outstanding on Saturday.

“Motty’s been very important for us, he’s close to maybe being All-Australian this year, he’s had a great year.

Skipper Joel Selwood had a day out, kicking a career-best four goals.

With a total of 21 goals for the season, Selwood is now averaging a goal a game compared to an average of half a goal a game in the past.
“We have got a little competition going on me and him.

“Before I was out I was seven goals in front but he’s gone bananas since I’ve been out, four goals to two this week so I’ve got a bit of work to do.

“He’s an elite player anyway but he’s taken his game to the next level.

With West Coast at Patersons Stadium next week, the challenges keep coming for the Cats.

“Scotty will probably talk about it during the week, that we have got to start playing the way we are going to in finals.

“It’s a big challenge for us, the trip over, but we can’t use that as an excuse so we’ll go over there full of confidence and see how we go.”
