Five things we loved about the AFL and VFL teams' wins on the weekend:

1. COREY ENRIGHT'S FORM IN HIS 299th AFL GAME
The man we know as 'Boris' seems to be getting better with age. The 33-year-old was an outstanding contributor in the Cats' stirring win over Port Adelaide on Friday night, tallying a game-high 29 disposals at 79 per cent efficiency. He also took nine marks and had an impact at both ends of the ground, racking up six inside-50s and six rebound 50s. And that wasn't all. Enright also finished with a career-high 16 intercept possessions. After the game, fellow defender Jared Rivers described Enright as being a bit like the movie character Benjamin Button. Now it's full steam ahead for Enright's 300th game. He will reach the milestone when the Cats take on Melbourne at Simonds Stadium on Sunday.

2. THE EFFORTS OF THE ENTIRE CATS BACKLINE
After holding Essendon goalless in the first half in round 10, Geelong's defenders were at their miserly best yet again in the victory over the Power. They were particularly effective in the second half when Port Adelaide generated 28 scoring shots but managed just four scoring shots (all of them goals). Corey Enright was the star performer on the night, but Tom Lonergan, Harry Taylor, Jed Bews, Jared Rivers and Jackson Thurlow were also outstanding contributors. Rivers was particularly pleased at the end of the game. He had previously played 10 AFL games in his native South Australia (eight at Football Park and two at Adelaide Oval) and had been on the losing side in each of them.

3. CORY GREGSON KEEPS ON KEEPING ON
The accepted wisdom is that first-year players like Gregson can only play six or seven games at the highest level before they run out of puff. But the 18-year-old South Australian is defying such expectations. Gregson has played every game of the home and away season so far and he is still firing on all cylinders. He finished the win over the Power with nine disposals, four tackles and a goal, in what was another very encouraging effort. And check out this stat from one of our fans …

4. STEVEN MOTLOP'S SOCCER GOAL
The speedy half-forward demonstrated his prodigious skill on Thursday evening when he and Jackson Thurlow starred in the Cats' entry for the latest Gatorade Challenge. Motlop then repeated the dose with a brilliant soccer goal the following night in the game against Port Adelaide. The play began midway through the first quarter when Port star Robbie Gray picked up the ball deep in Geelong's forward line and attempted to dish off a handball to his teammate Sam Colquhoun. Motlop's pressure forced the ball to bobble out of Gray's hands. Motlop then pounced and soccered the Sherrin out of mid-air and straight through the big sticks. It was an extraordinary piece of instinctive play.

5. MICHAEL LUXFORD'S BIG WEEKEND
Having made his AFL debut in round 10 against Essendon, the ever-enthusiastic youngster was omitted from the side that played Port because Rhys Stanley was ready to return. Luxford was named as an emergency for the game, so he travelled to Adelaide with the team on Thursday. He took part in the training session at Adelaide Oval on Thursday evening and was also present for the various team meetings. He then headed back to Adelaide Oval with the rest of the players on Friday evening. But once it was clear that everyone named in the side was fit and he would not be required, Luxford caught a taxi to Adelaide airport and flew back to Melbourne. The following day he lined up in Geelong's VFL team against North Ballarat and finished with a team-high 28 disposals. He is a young man on the move.
