Following on from the announcement that they would no longer be accepting any gambling-related revenue, the Geelong Cats have today announced the purchase of a health and fitness venue in Geelong.

The club has purchased Geelong’s Gym, located across the road from GMHBA Stadium in Newtown, as part of a longer-term strategy to replace gambling-related revenues at the club whilst still creating a positive impact on its communities.

Geelong Cats chief commercial officer, Braith Cox, said the opportunity to purchase the gym was one that was in-line with the club’s strategy to exit gaming and improve the lives of the community.

“Geelong’s Gym, the longest continually running gym in Geelong, presents an opportunity for the club to use their experience in wellbeing, high performance, health and rehabilitation to drive positive outcomes for the people of Geelong,” Cox said

“The recent sale of our gaming venue and the decision to no longer allow signage promoting gambling at our home games at GMHBA Stadium, have been outcomes that our members have warmly welcomed.”

The Cats will take over operations of the gym in late January.
