As 2019 comes to a close we look back at some of the top moments of the decade.

Today we take you back to Geelong’s Round 17 2017 clash against the Hawks, where both sides fought out another MCG Blockbuster.

Early signs didn’t look promising for the Cats when Patrick Dangerfield sent a scare through the Geelong camp when he raised his arm requesting assistance after a collision with Jarryd Roughead in the centre square.

“He kicked through the ball and it was smothered, he is in real trouble here,” said the Fox Footy callers at the time.

He immediately left the ground and headed into the Geelong rooms with what appeared to be a serious knee injury.

Dangerfield re-appeared looking a little proppy and returned to the field stationed at full forward.

What he would produce from that moment onwards on one-leg was simply a miracle.

Dangerfield finished with 11 shots on goal to kick 5.6 and turned the game Geelong’s way, helping the Cats to a three-point win against their great rival.

“I was very happy with myself that game,” Dangerfield said.

“I clipped my foot on Roughy when I was going to kick and then was lucky enough to drift forward.

“Sometimes you play those games where the ball seems to bounce your way, the heavens open up and you get these little pockets of space that you don’t normally get in a game.”

“It was certainly one of the more enjoyable that I have played in.”

Captain Joel Selwood described it as a ‘hell of a performance’.

“Paddy went down early with a leg injury and I definitely didn’t think he was going to come back on,” Selwood said.

“We were able to stick him down in the forward line and he was able to kick a score for us.”

Post-match Dangerfield was asked if he would face the Crows the following round. His response was a classic.

“I’ll get into the city of churches, say a few hymns and hopefully it’s right to go on Friday.”

Those hymns appeared to do the trick as Dangerfield took the field and finished with 25 disposals and 10 tackles.
