STAR midfielder Mark Blicavs has become the latest player to re-sign with Geelong.

The 24-year-old, who has played 66 of a possible 71 games since making his debut in round one, 2013, has joined his good mate Cameron Guthrie and a host of others in committing to the club.

"It's exciting," he told geelongcats.com.au prior to heading off for a holiday in Japan.

"I'm very excited to have signed with the football club. It's something I'm very happy with.

"Other players have been signing throughout the whole year, and to see so many guys commit to the club shows that there's a lot of trust there.

"Everyone's on board to see the club succeed."

Blicavs, who spent large parts of the 2015 season playing either as a ruck-rover or ruckman, is confident that the Cats are on the verge of another successful era.

"We've shown some really positive signs this year, and it is exciting to think about what we can bring to the table next year," he said.

"But we've got a lot of hard work to go, that's for sure.

"So we're going to go away for a couple of months and enjoy the break, then we'll come back knowing that we're ready to put in the hard work.

"And whoever we recruit into the team or draft into the team, I'm sure they'll fit into the place nicely, which will be good."

Blicavs' development from Olympic athletics hopeful to accomplished AFL player continues to be a source of amazement for many people in footy.

But the man himself knows he still has plenty of improvement to come.

"In my first year playing in the AFL I probably couldn't quite believe it was happening," he said. "I was a bit star-struck by some of my teammates.

"But now I look at myself as just another footballer who is trying to make his club a better place and his team a better team.

"I'm very proud with what I've achieved so far, but now I want to help bring success to the club."
