Gary Ablett Jnr says his father has interest in returning to Kardinia Park and pitching in as the Cats quest for their next premiership.

Ablett Jnr told Fox Footy that he wanted to reconnect Senior with the Cats.

“I think, to come back here, I’m really hoping over the next couple of years my dad can get a bit more involved with the football club,” he said.

“I know that’s something he wants to do.”

The recently returned star hopes his dad can impart some of his knowledge on the Geelong list.

“I’m not too sure, whether it’s as a forwards coach or just coming along to more games and spending that time with the guys,” Ablett said.

“I think to be able to come back down here, I’m sure he’s going to come along to a lot of those games.”

Ablett is aware of the impact the legendary figure of his father has on the club.

“I’ve seen a few times that he has been in the rooms, how much of a buzz that has been for everyone around the football club,” he said.

With round one just around the corner, Ablett confirmed what he was seeking with his return to GMHBA Stadium.

“To be able to play in front of him, and hopefully finish off with a premiership, that’s my goal,” he said.

“I feel like I’ve achieved everything that I’ve wanted to in football. But I want to come back down here.

“I want a premiership with this group, that’s the goal. And I’ll be doing everything I possibly can to play my part.”
