Mackie on whether Geelong will need to trade a player

Well we are hopeful that is not needed. We feel like we have got plenty there.

Like I said, the pick 14 is of real value to us, just given what is going to transpire in the competition.

We drafted a young fella, Harley Barker last year who has just got through a knee reconstruction. We are feeling really confident about what he is going to be and with our core group of guys that are at the right age, obviously we added Toby Greene too which is really exciting for us as a footy club.

I feel like we have got enough that we can get the trades done, but as I said, when you have got contracted players that want to come to your club, it doesn't make it easy on us or any club.

That is real, we will work through it, there is 10 days to go with those guys and we will see what happens.

Mackie on Gryan Miers

He is in demand most years, Gryan, so I am not surprised.

He is a talented player, teams see what we see. He is a really crafty player that has done a great job for us over a number of years.

I am not surprised, he is going away and it is a player doing their due diligence.

We like to think that we are pretty mature and open as a club on all things. It is hard to sit here and say no to everything or anything, but I would be really surprised.

Scotty and I had a catchup with Gryan on Thursday before our Best and Fairest. That was a really good conversation and he is loving life, and we are loving what he is doing for us.

Mackie on Rowan Marshall

It is hard to say right now, there are some challenges to that deal.

We have committed to Rowan that we will try to make it happen.

I don't want to get into too much detail and specifics around that, but there is work to do.

But it is also day one of trade period and we will see what can happen.

Mackie on Jack Bowes

I spoke about it on radio the other day and like I have said a couple of times already, we do have mature conversations with all our players.

We love Jack, there has been an offer there from our club for him to play. From an age demographic point of view, he is in a great spot.

The club loves him, the players love him, but the right thing for his footy might be to move on. We understand that, we can't do it with everyone obviously.

I will catch up with Essendon soon, but there is an understanding that hopefully that is tied up into a few things.

Maybe it might help with getting Jordan Ridley here.

Mackie on the interest in Lawson Humphries

No, but like I said with the Gryan one, we are a club that understands the player movement period and the transactions involved.

Once again, it is a credit to the player that there is interest in him. We understand it, he is a quality guy.

We drafted him, he is understanding our system, he seems like he is about enter his prime in terms of what he is about to be.

I understand the interest, but we are loving what he is doing for us. He has got another couple of years to run on the contract.
