Vale Glenn Middlemiss - 8 June 1956 to 17 September 2026

The Geelong Football Club and its Past Players are deeply saddened by the passing of former player Glenn Middlemiss, who passed away last week at the age of 70.

Football was proudly woven into Glenn's family history. He was the son of Russell Middlemiss, a member of Geelong's premiership teams in 1951 and 1952, and he carried that family legacy with distinction throughout his own football journey.

Glenn began his career with St Mary’s, before heading across to play with Geelong West in the VFA, and was renowned for both his determination and courage. His perseverance was rewarded when he made his VFL debut with Geelong in 1979.

Over three seasons, he played 34 games for the Cats, including appearances in two finals during the 1980 campaign. One of the highlights of his VFL career with the Cats was a seven-goal performance for Geelong against St Kilda at Kardinia Park in 1980. Glenn was described as a very versatile player who could be used both in defence and attack.

He later joined St Kilda, where he added a further 16 VFL games before concluding his league career in 1984. Following his VFL career, Glenn continued his football journey with Southport in Queensland, where he etched his name into club folklore by kicking the winning goal in the 1985 QAFL Grand Final, helping secure a famous premiership victory for the football club.

Glenn will be remembered not only for his commitment to football, but also for the strength of character, work ethic and pride with which he approached life.

As his son Luke reflected in a heartfelt tribute: “I’ve always been so proud of Dad. Dad loved keeping fit, working hard and taking pride in everything he did.”

Glenn's courage, determination and dedication left a lasting impression on teammates, friends and all who knew him. He will be fondly remembered by the Geelong and wider football community.
