Closely fought games often come down to who can make the most of their opportunities, and nobody did that quite like Chloe Scheer on Sunday afternoon. 

With the Cats locked in an intense battle and trailing at half time, they were looking for a spark inside 50 and Scheer answered the call, kicking her first goal at the eight-minute mark of the third quarter. 

She would then add a second at a crucial stage in the final term, before capping off a stellar display with a third major late to seal the deal in Geelong's seven-point victory. 

Scheer has made a strong return in 2026 after missing the past two seasons, kicking two goals against St Kilda last week and then recording a team-high eight score involvements against the Suns on Sunday. 

Speaking with Cats Media following the win at People First Stadium, Scheer said it was pleasing to be able to contribute strongly in a tight contest. 

"It was a hard fought win," Scheer said. 

"It was a gutsy effort, we had a few injuries.

"To come up here in these conditions, I thought it was a really good effort by the girls. 

"The goals didn't come easy, but I try to take my chances.

"I am just happy they went through, and that I could contribute to the win."

Scheer's performance was part of an outstanding display from Geelong's forward unit, with the likes of Chantal Mason, Aishling Moloney and Jackie Parry also having a big impact against the Suns. 

The forward quartet contributed strongly as the Cats kicked 10 goals and recorded their fourth highest score in the past three seasons, helping the Cats to record a second consecutive victory. 

But it was not just forward of the ball that they were able to have an impact, with each player taking their turn in the ruck after Piper Dunlop sustained an injury, doing a commendable job at an important stage of the match. 

Cats coach Mick Stinear noted how crucial Scheer and Geelong's forwards were, helping the Cats to return home with the four points. 

"We certainly appreciated 'Scheery' being back in the team," Stinear said. 

"Her quality and class deep in our forward line.

"But Parry, Mason and Moloney too, they give us a real good focal point ahead of the ball.
