Geelong has secured a hard-fought three-point victory over Carlton at IKON Park on Saturday afternoon, producing a four-quarter effort built on relentless pressure and strong defensive work to prevail 4.3 (27) to 3.6 (24).

In a match where every possession mattered, the Cats set the tone early with their defensive intensity. Geelong's pressure around the contest made life difficult for the Blues, while their ability to win the ball at stoppage helped establish control throughout the opening stages.

Jasmin Stewart was instrumental from the outset, collecting seven disposals, five handballs and a clearance in the first term, while Nikita Harris (six disposals, four kicks and two clearances) and Sienna Tallariti (six disposals, four kicks and a clearance) also made important contributions as Geelong laid the foundations for victory.

The Cats continued to build momentum in the second quarter, gaining the upper hand in both the disposal and kicking counts. Stewart capped off her strong first half with Geelong's opening goal of the game, while Faith Qoon provided valuable drive around the ground with six disposals, four kicks and two marks.

After the main break, Geelong maintained its ascendancy by winning the inside 50 battle and generating repeat forward entries. Hayley Peck delivered a crucial goal during the third term, helping the Cats extend their advantage as the midfield continued to find plenty of the football.

Lucy Marescuk was influential through the middle with 10 disposals, seven kicks and a clearance for the quarter, while Johanna Sunderland matched her efforts with 10 disposals, six kicks and a clearance of her own.

With the match on the line in the final quarter, Geelong's relentless pressure continued to set the standard. The Cats continued to force turnovers and deny Carlton easy opportunities before Harris produced a vital goal that ultimately proved the difference on the scoreboard.

Elise Cook was outstanding in the closing stages, finishing with 14 disposals, 11 kicks and seven marks as Geelong held firm against a late Blues surge to secure the 27-24 victory.

Stewart capped off a dominant afternoon with 23 disposals, 13 kicks, four clearances and a goal, while Annie Lee was equally impressive with 20 disposals, five marks and a clearance. Axel Oswald also played a key role across the contest, collecting 20 disposals, 14 kicks and eight marks in another strong performance for the Cats.

The hard-fought victory gives Geelong valuable momentum, with the Cats overcoming Carlton by three points in a fiercely contested battle.
