Scott on Geelong's momentum
I think I have said before that if given the choice, I would take momentum rather than ladder position.
It is difficult to know exactly where we are going to finish, obviously a bit dependent on other results.
But it is encouraging that we have found ourselves in the position where our destiny is in our own hands.
We feel like there is still parts of our game we can improve, and the weekend was a good example of that.
We certainly didn't come away from that game overconfident in some areas of our game, but optimistic and encouraged that if we can tighten a few of those things up, which I am sure we can, that we will be formidable.Â
Scott on the past month
The past month as a whole, I will go to the really obvious observation, which is any team that loses their best couple of players, that is going to present some real challenges.
I don't care who you are and you can spin it anyway you like, your very best players are impossible to replace. It doesn't mean you can't perform and we are seeing that across the competition to an extent with other teams as well, but that presented an obvious challenge for us.
I don't know exactly what it speaks to, whether it is depth necessarily or whether it is a slight tweak in system that was forced upon us, that has seen us play well enough.
I don't think we have been dominant in the games we have played, but certainly have played well enough to give us confidence that we are not dependent on a handful of players.
I think that has probably been the case for us for a while.Â
Scott on managing AFL and VFL byes
We have had some experience with it. That is not to say that say that the experience makes us experts, but it is something we have been aware of for a long period of time.
To an extent, that is all that we ask for, is that we get time to plan these things and think about it. It is hard to work out whether you are going to be playing Finals full stop, and if you are, is that going to include Wildcard Round.
You can work through the alternate scenarios, given there aren't too many. In a perfect world, our VFL program would line up with the AFL program every single week, but no club has that luxury.
In some ways, while it is less than ideal, we kind of embrace the challenge and the slight opportunity that comes with that. Managing players and their loads are almost forced upon you to an extent, and it is always easier to add them a little bit with their training, rather than take them away in terms of game time.
We feel pretty well prepared, not perfect but as close to it as we think we can get.Â
Scott on whether he expects Jeremy Cameron to return this week
I am actually, yeah.
Even this early in the week, based on the last couple of weeks he has had. There was a discussion last week as to whether he might play that game, so that is the broad observation and it is simplistic so I probably shouldn't say it, but if he was in consideration last week then I would say he is in pretty good shape this week.
I think we are in the position now where with him in particular, we wouldn't play him unless he was ready to go.
In my mind, the conversations we were having in the past fortnight lead me to believe that this is potentially a little bit later a return than he could have had.
But it leaves me more confident that he has got more training under his belt, and he is just ready to play normally.Â
Scott on Geelong's depth
There is a few in that category, I don't like individualising but I will for the moment.
There is a few of the guys that have played in those positions for us this year, and have performed at a really high level at VFL level.
Worpel was obviously one of those who came in, George Stevens has been really good for us all year, Jack Bowes is in that category, Mitch Knevitt is in that category.
I think hopefully it is encouraging for those guys that Jhye Clark and James Worpel, who were in a similar boat to those guys, have come in and played really well at AFL level.
It should give them confidence that we are thinking about them, and it gives us confidence that if they do come in, they can perform at the level.Â
