Geelong has recorded an impressive nine-point victory over Collingwood, delivering a disciplined four-quarter performance built on relentless pressure, strong contest work and efficient ball movement.
The Cats set the tone from the opening bounce, bringing plenty of intensity around the contest and making life difficult for the Magpies with consistent pressure. Geelong controlled territory early by winning the inside 50 battle, giving its forwards repeated opportunities to attack. Nikita Harris made the most of one of those chances, kicking the opening goal of the match to reward the Cats' bright start. Down back, Annie Lee stood tall with a crucial intercept mark as Geelong's defence continued to repel Collingwood's forward entries.
Geelong maintained its control throughout the second term, continuing to apply pressure across the ground while also winning the overall disposal count. The Cats' ability to win possession and move the ball effectively helped keep the game on their terms.
Jenna Hurring was influential around the contest with seven disposals and two marks, while Axel Oswald also found plenty of the football with seven disposals and a clearance. Charlotte Canavan contributed strongly with six disposals, four handballs and a mark as Geelong continued to build momentum heading into the main break.
The Cats lifted again in the third quarter, taking control in several key statistical areas. They won the kicking contest, continued to dominate inside 50s and held the advantage in the hit-outs, allowing their midfielders and forwards to get to work. Geelong's attacking intent also stepped up as they looked to create more scoring opportunities, while Annie Lee continued her standout afternoon with 11 disposals, four marks and a clearance through three quarters.
Several Cats produced strong individual performances across the afternoon. Mekah Morrissy was outstanding through the midfield, collecting 21 disposals, four marks and six clearances in an influential display. Lucy Marescuk also played a key role with 21 disposals, including 14 kicks, and added two clearances, consistently helping drive Geelong forward.
Geelong finished the contest strongly with fast, attacking ball movement creating dangerous opportunities inside forward 50. Harris added another two goals to complete an outstanding performance in front of goal, while Faith Qoon also hit the scoreboard as the Cats sealed a deserved 27–18 victory.
