Scott on what pleased him most

You have to get the ball forward to at least give yourself the chance.

We were aware of it, it felt like most of the media I did in prep for this game focused on how good Collingwood were at defending their defensive 50. Which is absolutely true and statistically true.

But as with a lot of stats in the game, you have to dig a little bit deeper to look at when that is the case.

Certainly if they are really well set and organised, it is hard to score against them. I think we saw that through the middle part of the game.

Even if you wanted to take a step back, if you look at the stats and we were +22 for inside 50s, you would like to think that we would have been a little bit safer on the scoreboard than we were in stages of the game.  

Scott on the ground-ball-gets

It is a critical part, I think it is different depending on where you are talking about.

They play a different style of game to us, I think it is related to the fact that they do get their numbers back really well to help them defend. But if you do that, you have to get the ball out of there with some speed.

They have got some really good ball-users back there, not just by foot but they are prepared that when they win that ground-ball, to play with a bit of speed.

It was important for us to counter that, then with a little bit of a different look through our midfield group.

I give James Worpel his flowers, he has had to bide his time a little bit in the VFL, which to a lot of people wouldn't have made much sense because he was playing really good footy. But he has come in and really helped us in that respect. 

Scott on the Mullin v Daicos battle

It was fascinating, I can't wait to go back and look at it a little closer.

I mean statistically, Nick was really good, but he is the best player in the comp in my opinion. It is very, very difficult to take him out of the game completely.

I thought he came into it a little bit more, and I tend not to count the stats, but we didn't think he had as much penetration as he normally does early in the game. Maybe that opened up a little bit as the game went on.

I really liked Oisin's game as well.

I have to look at it a little bit more closely, but he is not a blind tagger anymore, if he ever was. We thought he was really effective, not just with the ball, but helping our overall structure.  

Scott on whether he was expecting an immediate impact from Jay Polkinghorne

I was, and again, it is not to be overconfident.

It was more that it is our way a little bit, but he did have to bide his time in the VFL a bit. When he came in he was, in our opinion, ready to perform.

There was no sense that he might just need to work his way into AFL footy, we were sure that he could perform. He is playing a really important structural role for us, it is not just when he gets the ball, he is really complementary to our other forwards at the moment.

That is a real credit to him, because that part is a challenge, to get cohesion. It is one thing to be ready as an individual for AFL footy.

Until quite recently, he didn't even get the chance to train with our forwards that much. So to come in and play a role that does complement our other guys, it is a real credit to him. 

Scott on Ollie Dempsey

He started the game so well.

He keeps improving, that is off a pretty high base. For a still very young, he looks a tad underdeveloped I would say physically, I think he is going to get better in that respect.

But he is becoming a strong player as well, he is obviously an elite contested mark. He is quite a complete player.

We have not only toyed with the idea, but we are pretty convinced that he would be a very effective inside player as well.

Maybe losing a few, we thought that's the way it might evolve but when you have got a gun in a particular position, moving him comes with risk.
