Scott on the four-quarter performance

I actually didn't think it was that dissimilar to some of our previous games.

It was more consistent, in a way it was a bit similar to last week in that we thought the players set up the game really well early. Obviously the first half of the first quarter, we were pretty dominant which sort of reminded me a little bit of the GWS game.

We capitalised a little bit more, but still not as much as you would like to when you know that it is impossible against a team like St Kilda, who do want to attack pretty quickly from the back half. It means that they will have the momentum at times, but fortunately for us, that probably didn't really happen until very late in the game, when the result was decided.

The fact that we won makes me feel a little bit better, but I can't be more honest than to say that it wasn't like we have cracked the code and we are playing much better.

Scott on the seven changes

The thing that probably was different was that we brought in some different players, that gave us a bit of a different look.

Those guys have been performing at VFL level. I didn't even do the numbers on it, when I heard that we made seven changes it was like, well it sounds like a lot but all of them were really rational and easy to explain. You put them together and it looks like a big number, but there were the obvious ones.

Cameron going out, we needed to replace him and Polkinghorne was very obvious given the form he was in. Jhye Clark has been in super form at VFL level.

We felt for a while that we have had a decent group of guys at VFL level who just look like AFL players, playing in the VFL. At some point, we needed to find a way to get them in and it felt like this was the week, and they all came in and performed.

Scott on Geelong's small forwards

He [Miers] works really hard on his game.

There was a compounding effect of a few of those guys coming back into our forward half, like Brad Close. Mannagh was a bit sore tonight, so he wasn't quite able to have the impact that he normally would.

But Close and Miers in particular with their running power.

Even late last week when we effectively couldn't rotate that well, that is when you are searching for guys like Miers and Close who can just go, and go, and go.

They seem to get better when there is more fatigue on the game, that came through again tonight.

Scott on Jay Polkinghorne

I really liked his game.

He is not just a jump at the ball and mark it guy, which he obviously does really well, but he has got some smarts to go with it. He is good at ground level, I thought he complemented our forward line really well.

I try not to think about him in terms of who went out, so who do we need to replace them, we just had the opportunity for a different look.

It is not like we built it all around him, but we were very happy when he looked like being the main target. I don't think that will happen every week, but it is nice to know that he can do it.

Scott on Jhye Clark

He is just a terrier.

It is not just his VFL form, he has been annoying to the AFL players at training, because his intensity has just been fantastic.

We did make him wait a little bit, I am happy to say that and I don't feel comfortable with it necessarily, but it tends to be the way that we think about our program. We wanted to make sure that when guys come in, that they are really ready to perform.

Worpel is a good example as well, I would understand it if he came to me and asked, well what more do you want? He didn't, because he has been fantastic with the way he has carried himself, but the answer would have been that you are doing everything we are asking, you just have to be a bit patient.

I think he was rewarded for that tonight as well.
