Scott on how the Cats can bounce back

I think it is just focusing on the very immediate term and what we need to do.

There is always a process as a coaching group of looking back and reviewing, thinking about how we need to improve our game. But very rarely do we get stuck in the past, it is more about looking forward and trying to look at it with a balanced approach.

I think I referenced this last night on TV, but in part the challenge when you are a bit up and down is to not fall in love with yourself when things go well, because often you get a few breaks. You play a good team at a good time, or they have a few issues and you get a bit of luck yourself.

But also, just not losing your mind and make issues bigger than they are when you have the inevitable flat spot. Fremantle might be the exception at this stage, but there is still a bit of footy to go, it is naive to think you are ever going to have the perfect season.

But what I do know, from experience, is that it is very easy to compound bad things if you do lose your mind. I think we are more in that position now where it is like things aren't going exactly the way we want, but they are not disastrous either.

Scott on Gryan Miers

It has probably been more confusing for you than it is for us, because I don't explain it in any detail and don't have any intention to.

We have been really happy with the way things have progressed. I am breaking my own rule here and talking about selection before we actually select the team, but I will be open on this one.

He will play, that is in a really good spot for him and us in my opinion.

Scott on Tanner Bruhn and Jack Henry

It sort of seems to be, we have still got a fair way to go.

My policy generally is to give everyone a bit of space with these things, until we are ready to give a more accurate position on availability.

The most important thing for us was that it was established relatively quickly that they weren't serious injuries, but the potential for serious injury had to be covered off.

Whether they play this week or not, I am not sure. But the good news is that if not this week, you would think they are available pretty soon.

The really bad outcome was averted.

Scott on Geelong's forward structure

There has been a little bit of a change to the mix.

You have heard me talk about cohesion, especially in the forward half before and if things are really humming, you look at the teams over history that have gone really well, they tend not to change their forward line too much.

For one reason or another, we have had to do that.

It is not a decision that we make lightly, but I think that lack of cohesion probably has had a bit of an impact.

Scott on the Cats' optimism

Even if you look at our games, without exception, the games that we have lost we have had control of those games for large periods of time.

The biggest issue, in our opinion at least, obviously the opposition scoring is always a problem, but we just haven't been able to put the foot down when we have had control of games. Even if you look at Brisbane and Fremantle, they are high level teams but for three quarters, we had control of those games but just couldn't quite get it done.

But again, glass half full there, that leaves you optimistic. You look at our season, you take a step back and go okay, why would you be optimistic?

Well we have beaten all of those teams in front of us; Fremantle, Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney. It is not just us, but I think there is a group of teams that would be sitting there thinking well if things go right for us, could we beat those teams?

Sometimes the answer within a season for those teams can be a no, but I just don't think that is the case this season.
