With Geelong's extensive history as a Club, their storied rivalries with other teams and games played right across the country, it is rare to find any sort of anomaly within the Cats' history.

But ENGIE Stadium is one that paints an interesting picture, with Geelong set to make just their sixth visit to the venue for premiership points this weekend, when they take on the Giants on Saturday afternoon.

Their first trip to the western suburbs of Sydney came in Round 11 of the 2013 season, during GWS' second year in the competition and on paper, it looked like a relatively one-sided matchup.

Geelong were flying with nine wins from 10 games and tied on top of the ladder, while the Giants sat squarely at the bottom of the table and remained winless to that point of the season.

But if the Cats were expecting an easy stroll around the Sydney Showgrounds, they were badly mistaken and got an early wake up call in the opening stages of the contest.

Coming off a comfortable 52-point victory over Gold Coast the previous week, Geelong seemed to be taking plenty of momentum into ENGIE Stadium in Round 11, but things certainly changed in a heartbeat as the game commenced.

Rhys Palmer converted the opening goal for the Giants at the three minute mark of the opening term, Callan Ward added another a minute later and three more goals went through shortly after.

In the blink of an eye, the home side was 29 points clear and Geelong was shell-shocked, only managing one minor score of their own as GWS mounted the pressure on at the other end.

It could have been worse for the Cats as a young Jeremy Cameron, wearing the opposition's colours, squandered two chances to further put Geelong to the sword.

With a plethora of experience on the park, the Cats steadied and managed to kick two goals late in the term, limiting the damage and pulling the margin back to 18 points at quarter time.

There was still plenty of work to be done as the second quarter commenced, but early goals to Andrew Mackie and Jimmy Bartel started to change the momentum and the feeling around ENGIE Stadium.

Cameron would kick two goals in the term and the Giants were still able to score, but the Cats found a way to open up their attack and piled on the goals themselves.

In a 23-minute span, Geelong slammed through eight majors and turned their early deficit into an eight-point lead at the main break, a significant shift that looked as though the experience of Chris Scott's side was starting to overawe the young GWS outfit.

The third quarter followed a similar trend as the Giants found opportunities to impact the scoreboard, but three consecutive goals from James Podsiadly kicked the Cats clear as their lead neared 20 points.

It seemed as though Geelong had staved off the home side's biggest challenge, but 'Jezza' had other ideas as he added two more goals to his tally, the Giants kicking four goals in eight minutes of play to level the scores in the shadows of the three quarter time.

Podsiadly would help steady the ship once again with his fourth goal of the quarter, before Trent West gave the visitors some breathing room as the Cats re-established a 12-point buffer heading into the final break.

The game was certainly still up for grabs in the final term and Geelong knew how important a strong start was, with their experience proving to be a telling factor as the quarter unfolded.

Mitch Duncan landed the first blow with a brilliant diving mark and set-shot finish, Joel Selwood added another a minute later before both Josh Hunt and Tom Hawkins chipped in shortly after, momentum starting to flow freely the way of the Hoops.

Full of running, Geelong finished the game with a flurry of majors, kicking eight goals in the final term and 10 of the last 11 in the match, taking a hotly contested match and ultimately turning it into a 59-point victory at ENGIE Stadium.

Selwood (29 disposals, two goals) would clinch the three Brownlow votes, James Kelly (28 disposals, one goal) was ultra impressive, while Podsiadly finished with five goals and played an important role at a crucial stage of the match.
