Patrick Dangerfield's brilliant outing against Brisbane last Thursday has been recognised by the coaches, with the Cats skipper receiving a team-high five coaches votes in Round 17. 

Keeping his side in the contest for much of the night, the star Cat finished the game with five goals, his first five-goal haul since Round 17 of the 2017 season and just the fourth time reaching that figure in his illustrious career. 

Dangerfield also collected 17 disposals, laid six tackles (four inside 50) and generated 514 metres gained, while also registering six inside 50s in a remarkable and well-rounded display. 

With his five votes, Dangerfield takes his season tally to 11 votes, tied for the eighth most by any Geelong player. 

Shannon Neale was the other Cat to feature in the coaches votes, also taking his season tally to 11 after receiving one vote against the Lions. 

In one of his best performances against Brisbane, Neale collected 11 disposals and kicked three goals, all his majors coming in the third term as Geelong roared back into the contest. 

The big forward turned his 11 disposals into eight score involvements, while also dishing off a direct goal assist in an impressive outing. 

Max Holmes still leads Geelong and sits in seventh position on the overall coaches votes leaderboard, while Bailey Smith is still hot on his heels in 12th. 

The AFL Coaches Association’s Champion Player Award is an award voted by the 18 coaching panels on a 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 basis after each home and away game, acknowledging outstanding effort by an individual player in a season.
