Geelong have improved their 2020 draft position after a trade with the Gold Coast Suns at the 2019 NAB AFL Draft on Thursday night.

The Cats traded pick 27 in this year's draft in exchange for pick 64 and the Suns' 2020 mid-first round compensation pick.

Gold Coast used that pick to select Western Australian wingman Jeremy Sharp.

It looms as a massive win for the Cats with the pick slated to be 11th overall in next year's draft before father-son and NGA selections are taken into account.

The trade gives the Cats three first round picks in 2020 after they received West Coast's future first round pick in the trade for Tim Kelly.
