Geelong has selected its VFLW leading goalkicker Madisen Maguire with selection 98 in the 2019 NAB AFLW Draft.

Maguire secured a fourth-place finish in the Cats VFLW Best and Fairest Award in a stellar 2019 season at the Cattery, while kicking 11 goals from 15 games.

“It feels crazy. I still can’t believe it, I think it’s going to take a while for it to really sink in,” Maguire said.

The local product and 23-year-old Cat has done her time working her way up the football ranks in Geelong.

“I started off playing with Modewarre in the youth girls’ competition. I played for about four years I think and then went up to Senior Women’s with North Geelong.

“I played in the first Geelong VFL women’s team and I’ve been here for three years and now finally I’ve got the callup to play AFLW.

“I’ve learnt a lot from the program and I’ve gotten a lot fitter as well which I think has really helped me become a better footballer. I’ve learnt a lot about myself and improved.

“It’s great to be able to play for the team that has given me so much throughout my football years and I hope that I can do the jumper proud.”
