GEELONG captain Joel Selwood is set to qualify for AFL Life Membership when he runs out to take on the Hawks during Easter Monday's MCG clash.

Selwood will arrive at 300 official games, comprising 277 premiership season encounters, 20 pre-season games, one State of Origin matchup and two International Rules appearances.

The three-time premiership player has made six All-Australian sides during his career and been named the AFLPA Most Courageous Player on four occasions.

Former Cats captain Cameron Ling told sen.com.au that Selwood was a driving force behind the culture that led the Cats to three flags.

"From the day he walked in the door he helped guide the club forward," Ling said.

"The standards that he sets for himself and for the group has helped take the footy club further and further.

"And, most importantly, he's just a great bloke. You would struggle to find somebody who's met him who has a bad word to say about him.

He always remembered everyone's name; parents, partners… he'd be the one playing with the kids. - Ling on Selwood

"He's a real gentleman."
