Scott on Gather Round

I am so supportive of AFL innovation, you don't always get everything right when you are trying to innovate.

Especially in the competition that we live in, where there are compromises everywhere that are almost impossible to fix.

There are some wrinkles with Gather Round but if you put those minor wrinkles aside, South Australia in general and not just specific cohorts but the whole industry, the whole state has just done such a good job of this weekend.

They have a very strong case to say why wouldn't it continue?

That is not to say that another state couldn't do it just as well, but they have certainly set a high bar.

It was part of the macro plan I guess, which is always subject to change. We almost never follow through on that rough draft perfectly.

He came off the game pretty well, the best way to summarise it would be that once you put all the information on the table, it just made most sense to be proactive with him this week.

I feel like I have been in this position before a lot with our players, probably for 15 or 16 years now.

You sort of feel like the right thing to do for those guys longer term is really clear, but there is a nervousness with taking important players out of your team.

Scott on Norwood Oval

It will be interesting, that is a good way to describe it.

It is a venue that I actually haven't seen since the Teal Cup in 1993. I watched a couple of games on TV, that Bulldogs and Brisbane game last year was a great spectacle.

There is a great atmosphere at Gather Round right across the state, obviously the Adelaide Oval games are huge but it is a nice way to showcase South Australian footy.

Just the feel of that place, in and around Norwood will be exciting for everyone.

Scott on Patrick Dangerfield's Timeline

I don't think that the five day turnaround had much to do with it.

It was more us really prioritising this training block, and there is a really strong argument that his training block has been completed.

But to be 100% sure, it just made sense for him to prioritise a bigger session which will probably happen today, over the game time on Sunday. It was about balancing which one made a bit more sense.

But again, there is an appearance of an emphasis on management over playing well, and that is just not the case at all.

I think for a while now, we have been clear that prioritising how they are going to be going later in the season is more important than the short term.

Scott on West Coast

Then the West Coast piece, we probably haven't focused too much on the game last week. I think it is obvious to me that when you have rebuilding teams, that there are fluctuations.

The irony is that the rebuilding teams are taking a very long term focus, but everyone else seems to want to focus on the very short term. We won't get sucked into that, fortunately for us we didn't have to look back too far to see them play really well.

They have got a lot of young talent as most of the rebuilding teams tend to have, and if there is one thing in the game that I have respect for, is how quickly some of those highly talented guys can come in and have an impact.

I think a few of the guys, without individualising, in West Coast's team are a good example of that.
