Cats fans do not need to be reminded of Jimmy Bartel's famous point after the siren to defeat Hawthorn, with the classic contest in Round 17 of the 2009 season etched into the memories of all those who follow the mighty blue and white.
But what many might forget is that exactly one week later, Geelong were locked in another enthralling battle that came down to the dying moments of the contest.
The Cats hosted Adelaide at GMHBA Stadium in Round 18, a team that were knocking on the door of the top four with just over a month remaining in the home and away season.
A meeting between the two sides earlier in the season had comfortably gone the way of Geelong, a 48-point victory coming in the midst of the Cats' 13-game winning streak to open the year.
But with the stakes ramping up and teams hitting their straps as September loomed large, this Round 18 contest would not be a simple one for 'Bomber' Thompson and his side as a fired up Adelaide team took up the challenge at Kardinia Park.
Riding the momentum of their heart-stopping victory a week earlier, Geelong started strongly in the opening half against Adelaide and kicked away to an 18 point lead by half time.
Paul Chapman led the way with two goals and Cameron Mooney provided a strong presence inside 50, while Jimmy Bartel continued on from his heroics against Hawthorn with another dominant showing.
The second half continued in a similar fashion, Chapman added two more goals to his tally and by the 13-minute mark of the third term, Geelong had built a 27-point buffer and seemed to be in full control of the match.
But Adelaide had a point to prove and quickly wrestled back the momentum, piling on four goals in seven minutes to close within a kick, Gary Ablett hitting the scoreboard late to give Geelong an eight point lead at the final change.
But there was a different atmosphere around the ground and Adelaide were keen to capitalise, kicking three unanswered goals in quick succession to begin the final quarter.
In the blink of an eye, Geelong's 27 point lead had become an eight point deficit, setting the stage for another grandstand finish in front of a raucous Cats crowd.
Enter the man of the moment, Paul Chapman.
With less than nine minutes on the clock, the hard-nosed Cat got a difficult opportunity from the forward pocket but threaded the needle with his kick, nailing his fifth major and dragging his side back within three points.
But he was not done there, Chapman lined up another from outside 50 and launched home his sixth goal to put the Cats back in front.
It proved to be the difference, Adelaide had an opportunity late but it rolled through for a minor score, as Geelong successfully defended the final five minutes to hold on for a two-point victory.
The win was made even more special as the Cats celebrated two significant milestones, with Darren Milburn playing his 250th AFL game while Jimmy Bartel played game number 150.
Remarkably, Chapman's 24 disposal and six goal performance only netted him one Brownlow vote, with Bartel (34 disposals, one goal) and Joel Selwood (26 disposals, one goal) taking out the three and two votes respectively.
