Since Gold Coast joined the AFL in 2011, the Cats have had some intriguing battles with the Suns in a rivalry that has gone back and forth in recent times. 

With the two teams slated to do battle in an Opening Round blockbuster on Friday night, it will mark the 18th time that the sides have met and the ninth time at People First Stadium. 

The Cats still hold the all-time scoring record in a match and that occurred at the same venue, having played against six different opponents at Carrara Oval in the club's history.

Take a look through some of the best numbers from Geelong's history against the Gold Coast Suns. 

24 - Geelong's winning margin in their most recent clash with the Gold Coast Suns, which occurred in Round 13 last year. 

13 - Total wins for the Cats against Gold Coast, the two teams squaring off 17 times since the Suns entered the league in 2011.

20 - Times that Chris Scott has coached against Damien Hardwick, the fourth most matches against any coach during Scott's tenure. 

150 - The biggest winning margin for the Cats in a game against Gold Coast, which occurred in Round 20 of the 2011 season.

188 - Geelong's highest score in a game against the Suns, which also happened in the Round 20 clash in 2011 where Steve Johnson and James Podsiadly kicked 11 goals between them. 

17 - Total games played at People First Stadium, or Carrara Oval as it is more commonly known. The Cats have won 11 games against six losses at the venue, which dates back to 1987. 

1 - Only one game between the two teams has been decided by two goals or less, by comparison there have been seven games with a margin of 60 points or greater. 

6 - Different opponents that Geelong has played at People First Stadium. This includes Gold Coast and the Brisbane Bears who have called the venue home, but it also includes Port Adelaide, the Western Bulldogs, Richmond and Sydney, with all those games occurring during the Covid era. 

239 - Still the record for the highest score in a V/AFL match, a record which Geelong set at Carrara Oval against the Brisbane Bears in 1992. Gary Ablett Senior led the way with a lazy nine goals, with the Cats recording 13 different goal kickers.
