Geelong Cats are pleased to announce 2022 Premiership Captain Joel Selwood will represent the Club as the 2025 Premiership Cup Presenter.

If the Cats are successful against the Brisbane Lions in Saturday’s AFL Grand Final at the MCG, Selwood will present the Premiership Cup to Senior Coach Chris Scott and Captain Patrick Dangerfield.

Since 2004, each competing club in the AFL Grand Final nominates a representative to present the Premiership Cup in the event of a win.

In 2022, Cameron Ling presented the Premiership Cup to Selwood, while Doug Wade presented the cup to Ling in 2011, Bob Davis presented the cup to Tom Harley in 2009, and Fred Wooller did the honours in 2007.

Selwood built a legacy as one of the greatest players to ever pull on the blue and white hoops, an incredible career that spanned over 16 years and 355 games. Selwood finished as a four-time premiership player (2007, 2009, 2011, 2022), a six-time All-Australian (2009, 2010, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017), a three-time Carji Greeves Medallist (2010, 2013, 2014) and a four-time winner of the AFLPA's Robert Rose Most Courageous Player Award (2009, 2012, 2013, 2014).

Amongst a plethora of other accolades, Selwood is also Geelong’s and the AFL's longest-serving captain, becoming a premiership captain in 2022 in what would be his final season in the AFL.

“I’m extremely honoured to be asked to present the Premiership Cup if Geelong wins in Saturday’s Grand Final,” Selwood said.

“This Club holds a special place in my heart and has been such a big part of my life. It’s been a joy to watch the Club continue to chase greatness every year, with so many of the players I’ve played alongside continuing to challenge in pursuit of football’s ultimate prize.

“I wish the players, staff, members and supporters all the best for Saturday, enjoy the moment and embrace the opportunity.”

Geelong Cats CEO Steve Hocking said the Club was thrilled to nominate Selwood for the role.

“Joel is so well respected within the Geelong Cats, as well as in the wider Geelong region and football communities, and we are excited to see him present the Cup if we are successful on Saturday,” Hocking said.

“As our most recent Premiership captain, Joel has had an indelible influence on so many of our current players, coaches and staff across a career that spanned 16 years and 355 games, including four Premierships.

“If the Cats are fortunate enough to triumph on Saturday, it will be a special moment for Joel to present Chris and Patrick with the Cup on behalf of Geelong members, fans and past players.”

Earlier this month the AFL confirmed Grand Final Day presenters - Luke Hodge will present the Norm Smith Medal, Adam Simpson will present the Jock McHale Medal to the winning coach and Ken Fraser will present the Ron Barassi Medal to the winning captain.
