The Geelong Cats’ AFLW squad has been bolstered with the addition of emerging winger Emma Kilpatrick and seasoned tall Erica Fowler, two players at different stages of their football journeys, but both determined to make an impact in the Hoops.

The pair fronted the media at GMHBA Stadium this week as pre-season preparations continue to intensify ahead of the 2025 NAB AFLW season.

At just 18, Emma Kilpatrick’s journey to Geelong has been swift but well-earned.

The dynamic winger from West Adelaide impressed across the 2024 SANFLW season, finishing runner-up in her club's Best & Fairest count and claiming the coveted Players’ Player award. Her efforts were also recognised with selection for South Australia in the 2024 AFLW Under 18 National Championships and the SANFLW representative side earlier this year.

Now settling into life in Geelong, Kilpatrick said the opportunity to don the Hoops was one she relishes.

“It is awesome, I am from Adelaide so moving across about a month ago now has been good,” Kilpatrick said.

“I am living with a host family which is lovely, all the girls and staff here at Geelong are amazing. It was so surreal, it still is a bit surreal. They have been nothing but helpful so it is really pleasing."

On the opposite end of the experience spectrum is Erica Fowler, a proven AFLW performer with 46 games under her belt, all with Collingwood.

Fowler, 32, brings versatility and depth to the Cats tall stocks, having spent time in both ruck and key positions throughout her career. After being delisted from the Pies, Fowler impressed at VFLW level with Sandringham this season.

Fowler said the decision to return to AFLW level was driven by the right opportunity at the right club, already loving her time at Geelong.

“Life at the Cats is absolutely amazing,” Fowler said.

"I am really loving my journey here so far, everyone has been so welcoming. The culture and what they are creating here is really good to be a part of, I am just so excited to be here.”
