Geelong Cats young gun Ollie Dempsey has put pen to paper on a four-year contract extension, securing his future at GMHBA Stadium until at least the end of the 2029.
Having played seven games in his first two seasons at the Club, the 22-year-old wingman enjoyed a breakout 2024 season playing every match, including the team’s two Finals appearances. Dempsey’s season was capped off by winning the AFL Rising Star award, the first Cat to claim the honour since Joel Selwood in 2007.
Originally selected in the 2021 rookie draft, Dempsey returned to football after playing basketball throughout his teenage years, with his aerial marking ability, forward craft and aerobic running capacity making him one of the most exciting young players in the AFL.
Becoming a mainstay in Geelong’s 23, Dempsey has played 41 consecutive games and has continued his stellar form in 2025, kicking 22 goals from 15 games, the second most by a midfielder/winger across the AFL and second only to Jeremy Cameron (48) at Geelong.
Cats Executive General Manager – Football Andrew Mackie said the Club was thrilled to have secured Dempsey’s signature.
“Ollie has an infectious personality, and is a much-loved member of our football program,” Mackie said.
“Already in his short career Ollie has a great highlight reel and has added a real spark on-field with his energy and hard running, and we can’t wait to see him continue grow as a person and a player over the next four years.”
Dempsey joins Tom Atkins, Mark Blicavs and Gryan Miers who have also re-signed with the Cats over the past month.
