A strong start to the season has Geelong perfectly poised to attack the final stretch of the home and away season, with eight games remaining before Finals when the Cats return from their bye.

With 10 wins from 15 matches, the Cats sit in third place on the ladder, finishing inside the top eight at the conclusion of every round except one, Round 3.

Geelong's loss to Brisbane on Friday was an outlier in 2025, with the Cats' other four defeats coming at a combined margin of 38 points, with three of the those losses finishing with a single-figure deficit.

Check out a full breakdown of the season so far, the stats the matter and what to look forward to when Geelong return from their bye.

LADDER POSITION

Sitting in third position, Geelong have set themselves up nicely with 10 wins to this point of the season, remaining just above a logjam in the middle of the ladder.

The Cats are just two points behind Brisbane in second position, as they look to secure a top four berth for the 15th time in the last 19 seasons.

15 wins secured a position in the top four last year, meaning Geelong will likely need at least five wins from their last eight games to reach that mark.

As it stands, the Cats have one game remaining against an opponent that currently sits in the top eight on the ladder.

BEST WIN

There could realistically be a handful of wins fighting for this title with the Cats victories over Adelaide, Hawthorn and the Western Bulldogs amongst the best games of the 2025 season.

But for the sheer drama and the iconic finish, Geelong's win over Collingwood in Round 8 has to be the pick of the bunch.

Battling it out in front of over 80,000 at the MCG, the Cats trailed by as much as 20 points midway through the third term before kicking seven of the next eight goals, storming to a 17 point lead late in the final term.

But that was not the final twist in the tale, Collingwood mounting one last challenge to give themselves a chance to clinch it late, the ball finding its way into the hands of Jack Crisp for a shot after the siren in his milestone match.

Crisp's set shot was pushed wide to the right, Geelong hanging on to secure a famous victory at the MCG.

COLEMAN MEDAL UPDATE

Jeremy Cameron's stellar form has seen the superstar carve out a very nice lead in the race for the Coleman Medal, eight goals clear of Jesse Hogan in second place with eight games to go.

Seven years removed from his most recent triumph, Cameron is well poised to secure a second Coleman Medal sitting on 48 goals for the season, kicking an average of 3.2 goals per game in 2025.

His run over the past six weeks has been simply incredible including a bag of seven against Port Adelaide, two six goal hauls against Essendon and the Western Bulldogs, and five majors against West Coast.

Despite the loss to Brisbane, Cameron kicked four of Geelong's six goals to extend his lead at the top of the Coleman Medal leaderboard.

BROWNLOW WATCH

Despite some of the AFL greats playing for the Cats in the past decade, the Cats have not had a Brownlow Medal winner since 2016 (Patrick Dangerfield) and have not had a top five finish since 2020 (also Dangerfield).

Cats midfielder Bailey Smith could be a fancy come the end of the year, currently predicted by the AFL.com.au Brownlow Predictor to be in second place behind Jordan Dawson at the conclusion of Round 15, while Max Holmes is currently predicted to be tied for 10th with a host of other players.

Smith also sits on top of the overall leaderboard for the AFL coaches votes through 15 rounds, polling 66 votes from his 13 games.

STILL TO COME

Geelong's run home starts in Round 17 as they take on Richmond at GMHBA Stadium, the first of four home games in the final eight weeks for the Cats.

Round 19 will see Geelong host St Kilda, before the Cats also welcome Port Adelaide in Round 21 and Essendon in Round 22.

The last two interstate trips for the Cats this year are both to New South Wales, taking on GWS at ENGIE Stadium (Round 18) and Sydney at the SCG (Round 23).

A pair of trips up the highway also await, one to Marvel Stadium to do battle with North Melbourne (Round 20) before rounding out the year with an MCG clash against Richmond (Round 24).

Tickets to all GMHBA Stadium games are available now via Ticketmaster.
