Geelong's five game win streak has been snapped at the hands of the reigning premiers on Friday night, the Cats falling to Brisbane by 41 points at GMHBA Stadium.

The damage was done early as the Lions flexed their muscle, the Cats struggling to find scoring avenues despite another four-goal haul from Jeremy Cameron.

Tom Stewart (22 disposals, 15 intercept possessions) and Jack Henry (12 disposals, nine intercepts) fought hard defensively, helping to thwart a number of Brisbane's attacks throughout the night and helping to limit the damage at times.

Through the middle of the ground, Tom Atkins continued to throw himself into contests and finished the night with 21 disposals, eight clearances and six tackles while also picking up six score involvements and five intercept possessions.

Despite all the excitement in the pre-game build up, Geelong had to weather an early storm as Brisbane piled on the first four goals of the match, the Cats ultimately limited the damage but still trailed by 17 points at the first break.

Under immense pressure early, Tom Atkins did everything he could to wrestle back the ascendancy collecting seven disposals and a pair of clearances, also producing the top highlight of the quarter with a brilliant run down tackle on Lachie Neale.

Geelong started to gain ascendancy around stoppages in the second term but turnovers at inopportune times stifled any momentum, Brisbane capitalising to push the lead out to 23 points at half time.

Bailey Smith and Tom Atkins were instrumental through the middle combining for seven clearances in the second stanza, while Jeremy Cameron's two goals were pivotal to help keep the Cats within striking distance at the main break.

Withstanding a barrage of inside 50 entries from the Lions, Jack Henry and Tom Stewart stood tall down back picking off 13 intercept possessions between them in the opening half.

Brisbane made an emphatic move after half time as they slammed through four unanswered goals to open up a game high 45 point lead, Geelong able to narrow the gap to 32 points at the final break.

Any chance of the Cats mounting a challenge was quickly snuffed out in the last quarter, the Lions kicking the opening two goals in under five minutes, Geelong eventually falling by 41 points.

Geelong will enjoy a chance to reset next weekend with their bye, before returning to GMHBA Stadium the following week to take on Richmond.
