2025 AFL Season - Round 13
Geelong Cats v Gold Coast
GMHBA Stadium, Geelong
Saturday June 7th, 4.15pm (AEST)
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Geelong: Sam De Koning
The Cats defensive unit will have their work cut out for them against one of the best offensive teams in the league, lead by Ben King who sits third on the Coleman Medal leaderboard with 32 goals for the year.
While there are a number of players that could get the big match-up, Sam De Koning will be important either way on the last line of defence with his intercepting prowess and ability to kill the contest.
According to AFL Stats, De Koning has been in 22 contested defensive one-on-ones this year and has only lost one, while ranking 19th in the AFL for intercept possessions and 22nd for intercept marks in 2025.
Gold Coast: Noah Anderson
It will be an enticing match-up in the middle of the ground on Saturday, with some of the top on-ballers in the competition set to go head to head, Gold Coast with two of the top five clearance players in the AFL so far in 2025.
While most of the focus goes to the likes of Matt Rowell and Touk Miller, Noah Anderson is the one who does the bulk of the damage for the Suns with his ball winning prowess and silky skills.
Anderson ranks seventh in the AFL for disposals this year (30.9 per game), fourth for clearances (7.4), seventh for inside 50's (6.1) and ninth for contested possessions (13.4).
In last year's win over Geelong, Anderson ran amok collecting 42 disposals and booting two goals, ultimately awarded two votes on Brownlow night for his performance.
RECENT HISTORY
The overall history between these two sides heavily favours Geelong, but recent history has swayed the way of the Suns who have won the last two clashes.
Gold Coast got the better of the Cats in Darwin last year and in Queensland the year before that, which broke a run of six consecutive wins for Geelong against the Suns between 2018 and 2022.
Since they entered the league Geelong has faced Gold Coast on 16 occasions, winning 12 times and only losing four.
The two sides have squared off at GMHBA Stadium seven times, the Cats winning all seven matches by an average of 72 points, but the Suns have not visited Geelong since the 2021 season.
