For the second time in five weeks, Patrick Dangerfield has received a perfect 10 votes from the coaches after a sensational performance against Collingwood on Saturday night. 

The Cats skipper collected a season-high 29 disposals and 17 contested possessions to go with a goal, two goal assists and eight total score involvements in a match winning display. 

Dangerfield elevated his game to even greater heights in the final quarter winning 13 disposals, 10 contested possessions and five score involvements in the last term when the game was on the line. 

The performance was symbolic of the his year so far, booting 16 goals and averaging over 17 disposals per game through the opening eight weeks of the season.

Bailey Smith continues to go toe to toe with Dangerfield in the coaches votes, after the star recruit was awarded another six votes for his performance against the Magpies. 

With his run and carry a highlight on the wide expanses of the MCG, Smith accumulated 34 disposals and 715 metres gained, while also adding five clearances and a goal in another terrific outing. 

Mark O'Connor was also recognised for his outstanding game in Round 9, receiving two votes from the coaches which is his first votes of the 2025 season. 

Often entrusted one out on the last line of defence, O'Connor played a pivotal role picking off eight marks and five intercept possessions.

Bailey Smith has moved into a tie for fourth on the overall coaches votes leaderboard with 33 votes for the year, while Patrick Dangerfield has also moved into the top 10 with a total of 31 votes. 

13 different Geelong players have now been awarded votes through just eight rounds of the season. 

The AFL Coaches Association’s AFL Champion Player Award is an award voted by the 18 coaching panels on a 5,4,3,2,1 basis after each home and away game, acknowledging outstanding effort by an individual player in a season.
