The AFLW Cats have put in a strong performance against the Adelaide Crows in a practice match on Saturday, showing plenty of positive signs in their final hit-out before round one.

Taking on one of the strongest teams in the competition, the Cats created plenty of chances in an impressive four quarter performance as they pushed Adelaide right until the final siren.

Irish recruit Aishling Moloney was electric up forward for Geelong, just weeks after arriving at the club and picking up the game of Australian Rules Football.

Moloney created a number of opportunities in front of goal, including a creative assist that set up Chloe Scheer’s first goal in the second quarter.

Shelley Scott got Geelong on the scoreboard with her first goal late in the opening term, following a brilliant passage of play from half back to forward 50 for the Cats.

Annabel Johnson converted a nice set shot early in the second quarter, before Chloe Scheer soccered through the Cats third just minutes later.

Scheer found Kate Darby at the top of the goal square early in the third quarter, making it goals in back to back games for Darby.

Mikayla Bowen shrugged a tackle and snapped truly in the final quarter for her first major, before Kate Darby plucked a brilliant contested mark and added her second late in the term.

Amy McDonald kicked her first to close the margin to just four points, but the clock would ultimately beat the Cats as they fell six points short.

Julia Crockett-Grills was one of the Cats best against the Crows racking up plenty of the football, while Darcy Moloney spent plenty of time through the midfield after kicking two goals last week.

Amy McDonald, Georgie Prespakis and Nina Morrison were all major ball winners as they look to further improve one of the strongest midfield trios in the competition.

With the final practice match now completed the Cats will turn their attention to round one, as a date with the Western Bulldogs awaits in the season opener on the 2nd of September.
