The Cats will head to Adelaide this weekend for one last practice match against the Crows, before turning their attention to round one of the AFLW home and away season in the first week of September.

The Cats kicked off their 2023 campaign last weekend with a match simulation against Collingwood, but will test themselves this Saturday against one of last season’s Preliminary Finalists in Adelaide.

Head of AFLW and Pathways, Brett Johnson said the group is looking forward to an exciting challenge as they finish up their preparation for the season ahead.

"We are really looking forward to this opportunity,” Johnson said.

“We played Adelaide late last year and I think the margin was two points in the end. This gives us the opportunity to apply plenty of what we have learned over the pre season against a strong team.

"We feel that Adelaide will be another top team again this season, so we are excited about the challenge and we will try a few different things."

The Cats AFLW season will commence on the 2nd of September, opening their season in front of the Geelong faithful at GMHBA stadium against the Western Bulldogs.

The last meeting between the Cats and Bulldogs came in round six last year, where Geelong held on for a thrilling one-point win.

Johnson said the team can not wait to run out at home in the season opener, encouraging Cats fans to jump on board in the 2023 season.

“There is a real sense of excitement, anticipation, and optimism as well heading into the season,” Johnson said.

“We have been really happy with the way the players have approached pre-season, working with the staff to continually try to compete and improve.

"We feel like we are well placed at this stage before the season, and really trying to lock in our game style now heading toward round one.

"We are super excited about round one, we have the five home games here at GMHBA Stadium for the first time since we entered the competition.

“We would love to see as many supporters at our games as possible, to get behind this team because there is something special about this group.
