Geelong has continued to strengthen its midfield with the signing of Jack Bowes from the Gold Coast Suns.

The 24-year old will make the move to Victoria having committed to Geelong on a four year deal. As part of the deal the Cats will also receive Pick 7 from the Suns, in exchange the Suns will receive a future third selection.

Bowes has played 83 games for the Suns after being an Academy selection and top-10 pick in 2016. While having predominantly spent his time in the midfield, Bowes can also play in a variety of positions adding to the Cats depth across the field.

Geelong Head of List Management Andrew Mackie welcomed Bowes to GMHBA Stadium.

“Jack’s signature is exciting news for the Club, we had identified Jack as a player of interest for some time and we’re extremely happy to add him to our playing squad.

“He is a quality person of great character and we know Jack will be a great fit for our Club.

“Thank you to Craig Cameron and the Suns for the diligent and respectful conversations in working through this trade.”

Bowes thanked the Suns for his time at the club and said he was excited for the move to Victoria.

“I’m very excited to be joining the Cats, during the process of talking to the Club I was really impressed with the coaches, staff and players I met and the opportunity they saw for me to continue to develop and contribute to the team.

“I’m looking forward to meeting the rest of the playing group and staff and getting stuck into pre-season training.

“I would like to thank the Suns for my six years at the Club, I appreciate the time Dewy and the coaching staff put into my development and I wish them and the players success in the future.”

Bowes joins Tanner Bruhn, who the Cats secured last Friday from GWS, as new additions to the Club’s 2023 playing squad. The Cats now hold picks 7, 25, 58, 64 ahead of next month’s NAB AFL Draft.

The AFL Trade Period runs until 7.30pm AEDST on Wednesday 12 October.
