A host of big names look set to return for the Bendigo Bank Cats against the Sandringham Zebras this weekend, with Daniel Menzel, Cameron Guthrie, Jesse Stringer, George Horlin-Smith and dual AFL premiership player Josh Hunt all named in the 27 man squad.

While Hunt (glandular fever), Guthrie (calf) and Stringer (general soreness) will be making their first appearances of the home and away season, it is the return of Menzel that will have the Geelong faithful flocking to Simonds Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

It will be Menzel’s first appearance in the blue and white hoops since seriously injuring his left knee in Round 10 of the VFL last season.
On that particular day at Simonds Stadium, Menzel was making his comeback from an injury to his right knee that he sustained in the 2011 Qualifying Final against Hawthorn.

In other selection news, former Geelong Falcons pair Jai Sheahan and Tom Gribble have been named in the squad and are chance to make their debut for the Cats.

After his eye-catching VFL debut at Torquay, Modewarre speedster Dane McFarlane will once again represent the Cats as the 23rd player this weekend.

At this stage Joel Corey (AFL), Josh Walker (shoulder) Mitch Fisher (soreness) and Tom Maas (hamstring) are the only outgoing players from the side that defeated the highly rated Williamstown side by 8 points in Round 1.

The St Kilda aligned Sandringham Zebras will be looking to register their first win for the season after a 32 point defeat at the hands of the Richmond aligned Coburg Tigers last weekend.

The Sandringham squad includes a dangerous combination of experienced VFL listed players with AFL industry experience such as Marcus Marigliani (Essendon), Myke Cook (Adelaide Crows) and Adam Cockie (West Coast Eagles), high profile AFL listed players such as Justin Koschitzke, Farren Ray, Trent Dennis-Lane and Tom Simpkin and a group of extremely talented AFL listed youngsters such as Tom Ledger, Tom Curren, Nathan Wright, Spencer White and Brodie Murdoch (brother of Geelong’s Jordan).

Earlier in the week this match was transferred from Trevor Barker Oval, Sandringham to Simonds Stadium due to the condition of the Trevor Barker Oval playing surface.

The fixture swap means that the reigning premiers will now play 3 of their next 4 matches (and 8 of their next 12) at Simonds Stadium.
Kick off is at 1.00pm with the Bob Davis Gate opening at 12.00pm.
