Becky Webster says the build-up to Friday night’s game is bringing back happy memories.

The Cats onballer, who players her 25th game of AFLW in Round 6, is eager to recreate the joy the Cats felt on their last trip to the Gold Coast – when they scored their only win of the 2021 season.

“I do flash back to last year when we got our win after a really tough season on the Gold Coast, actually,” Webster said when asked what a career highlight has been to date.

“So I think player there this week as well, it’s bringing back those memories, some exciting times, and hopefully this weekend we relive it.”

Webster kicked a goal on the siren to cap a wonderful performance for the Cats in that game, finishing with 14 disposals and two tackles herself.

It was a strong end to a season which saw Webster excel after being moved on the ball, finish third in the Cats’ AFLW Best and Fairest and earn a Rising Star nomination.

Webster and the Cats’ midfield have gone from strength to strength this season as they continue to gel as a unit.

The 21-year-old relishes working alongside the likes of close friend Amy McDonald, fellow 2019 draftee Nina Morrison and first-year Cat Georgie Prespakis in the midfield.

“(During) our pre-season as well, we clicked really well,” Webster said.

“Even just the last few weeks, trying to continue that connection through, and last week it felt really good to elevate that again.

“Hopefully for the remainder of the season, we continued to keep making that step forward and bringing our wingers into it, and keep getting it forward where we need to.

“The connection has just grown, and it’s been awesome this year having everyone on the same page, and role clarity … it’s been good.”

Since making her debut in the Cats’ first-ever AFLW game against Collingwood in Round 1 of the 2019 season, Webster has grown as a player and cemented her spot in the team, shifting from a role in defence to on the ball.

In 2022, Webster is averaging a career-high 17.4 disposals, 6.6 tackles and 253.4 metres gained – including an incredible 504m gained against West Coast Eagles in Round 5.

Last week’s game was a standout for the former Murray Bushranger, with career-best stats for metres gained and tackles (11), as well as season-highs for kicks (13) and marks (4).

The Cats take on the Gold Coast Suns at 6.10pm (7.10pm AEDT) at Metricon Stadium on Friday.
