GEELONG has strengthened its draft hand on the first night of this year's NAB AFL Draft after completing a trade with the Western Bulldogs.

The trade took place before a player had even been selected with the Cats acquiring pick 23 in exchange for selections 32 and 34.

Pick 23 became 25 by the end of the night, but with selections 24, 25, 32, 52 and another late pick now at their disposal, Geelong is in a great position to bring in some top young talent at the draft on Thursday night.

“We were really pleased to do the trade early in the night with the Western Bulldogs,” list management team member Andrew Mackie said.

“To have those two picks now next to each other in the mid 20s is a good result for us.

"There are a number of players we are really excited to get our hands on and to have three picks by the early 30’s puts us in a good position to come back tomorrow night where we look forward to getting some good young talent to the Club.”

Round 2 onwards of this year's draft will be broadcast on Fox Footy and afl.com.au from 6.30pm AEDT on Thursday evening.
