CLUB stalwart Tom Hawkins has added to his growing resume of football honours, recognised with the Tom Harley Best Clubman award at this year’s Carji Greeves Medal.

The award is presented to the player who demonstrated outstanding care for his teammates, invests time and interest in all levels of the playing group and who champions the club values whilst working towards the greater good of the Geelong football club.

Cats captain Joel Selwood presented the award to his great mate.

“Tom has won this award purely because he has great care for his teammates, he champions the values of the club and he’s just an all-out winner,” he said.

“He’s someone that we all love playing with and having around the club and that’s why he’s won this vote.

“A number of people who have won it before have done the same things but Tom stands out not only for me but a number of our other employees at the club.”

Hawkins was taken by surprise by the announcement, believing he had been called to pre-record the announcement of another winner.

“It’s a huge honour,” Hawkins said.

“I know what Tom Harley has done in his time at Geelong, I was fortunate enough to play with him.

“I understand what an outstanding person he was for our footy club and I know the people who have won it in the past so it’s a huge honour.

“It’s something that I certainly wasn’t expecting and there’s a number of other players who could have won it.”

Hawkins was quick to thank those around him at the club and at home.

“It’s wonderful to hear that my teammates and people within the footy club and footy department feel that way as well so that’s wonderful news,” he said.

“I’m also grateful for my network of people who have helped me on my journey because behind every player that’s been in the system for a while, there’s good people behind the scenes supporting them.

“That certainly is my wife and kids and family that are spread out over New South Wales and Victoria.

“Without their support I certainly would be able to go out and perform each week.”
