The Geelong Football Club sincerely apologizes to the Aboriginal community for the disruption that prevented the Traditional Welcome to Country, Didgeridoo and dance ceremony taking place and other associated cultural activities from being performed as a celebrated part of round ten's Sir Doug Nicholls Indigenous Round at Simonds Stadium.

The club's management has met to thoroughly review the events of the night and accepts that difficulties in the pre-game program meant that the Welcome and traditional ceremonies were not performed at the scheduled and respected time.  The club takes full responsibility for this mistake and has apologized directly to those involved. In particular, our club regrets the missed opportunity to embrace and acknowledge Aboriginal culture and we especially appreciate the keen disappointment felt by the young people who were denied the opportunity to perform.

The club offers its sincerest apologies to the Aboriginal community for the hurt and distress this error has caused and again commits itself unreservedly to the reconciliation journey.
